Various pictures I took, in game, with the 3DS. It’s the AR games application.
June 2010, E3 Nintendo conference, over half way through, they announce they are making a new handheld. The Nintendo 3DS, the 5th DS in the series. After months and months of reading articles, looking at pictures, seeing videos, and seeing displays of it coming soon, I finally have one in my hands.
After only having less than 5 hours of sleep, I woke up Sunday morning, got dressed, drove the hour long drive to Hutchinson, where I had my reserve. Picked up 2 games, a case, and the system and jetted out of there as quick as I could to get home to play it.
So being the geek I am, I decided to document the event of unboxing all my goods. This is actually my first attempt at this, so some mistakes may be made, like the forgetting to photo or video the initial startup and setup of the system itself and of the games.
Now before I get into showing the photos, I’d like to first say, this system looks and feels very well built. Doesn’t feel too plastic-y, very solid, shiny, and sleek. Buttons respond pretty well, analog thumb stick thing slides nicely. Select, Home, and Start have to be clicked decently to be registered, a little off putting, but I guess so you don’t push them by accident.
The charge dock is pretty neat, plug it in from the back, the 3DS slides and clicks. It props the system up a bit, everything can still be accessed so it’s quite nice. The cord can be plugged into the system to charge without the dock too.
So far I only tried really one game, Ridge Racer 3D, I plan on playing Super Monkey Ball later when I have time. The game is pretty nice looking, graphics are a lot better than the DS’ before it. The 3D effect works really well, it’s more of a depth than popping out at you, but it still works. A little, tiny bit of a problem is of course the whole ‘have to keep it at one specific view for the 3D to work’ but you pretty much view the screen that certain way anyways.
